Taylor Swift’s ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Sales Plummet 92% in Week 2; Remains #1 on Billboard 200

As expected by most music fans and Taylor Swift disciples, ‘Life of a Showgirl’ made an extraordinary first week release debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, selling over 4,000,000 units in the United States. This total figure represents over 3,400,000 in pure sales (physical & digital) and 1,300,000 vinyl sales in the US. The album itself had a first day mark of 2,700,000 units moved and has totaled 5,500,000 total global sales and counting. These high sales marks makes ‘Life of a Showgirl’ one of the biggest releases of modern time, but it seems that hot streak has taken a sharp dive quickly.

As of Week 2 tracking for the Billboard Top 200, Swift’s new album has seen a 92% drop-off in sales and has produced a still very impressive 338,000 units sold. Although experiencing a sharp decline, ‘Life of a Showgirl’ still remains with elite company. The only other albums releasing with more than 338,000 units sold in their first week were from Morgan Wallen (493,000), The Weeknd (490,000), and Sabrina Carpenter (366,000). In it’s second week, ‘Life of a Showgirl’ has accumulated over 307.59 on-demand streams, equivalent to 236,000 SEA (streaming equivalent album) units sold - and this figure is down by 55% from first week.

Morgan Wallen spent 12 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 and Taylor Swift - swiftly - assumed the #1 position with this release. Not many more releases are scheduled for this year, so it seems ‘Life of a Showgirl’ will remain a chart topper for 2025.
