Christoper Nolan’s “The Odyssey” and Spider-Man: Brand New Day Both Reach Over $1B at the Box Office
“Do you want to be Spider-Man, or do you want to be Peter Parker?” - I’m both. This might be the most cinematically cool moment in any film this year and the current box office numbers don’t lie. The two most well produced films of the year, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, have crushed expectations and exceeded their budgets by astronomical proportions.
First, The Odyssey has officially crossed $1B in revenue in just three weeks in theaters as this marks Christopher Nolan’s first billion-dollar film since his famous “The Dark Knight Rises” film from 2008. Nolan came close with his direction for the film “Oppenheimer” in 2023, but that film’s revenue totaled around $975M. Revenue splits for The Odyssey show an impressive $429.7M USD from domestic box office sales and over 570.3M internationally. The Odyssey is also set to become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. Although already showing impressive revenue, this film still has yet to premier in China on August 14th and in Japan on September 11th - this will be Christopher Nolan’s highest grossing film ever once totaled.
As for Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes the second-fastest film to ever reach the $1B mark at international box offices in just 12 days. The revenue splits for the newest Spider-Man film see over $1.01B overseas and $655M domestically. These figures match up proportionally at second next to Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, which reached the $1B a few days faster back in 2019. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man figure has proven to be a heavy hitter in Hollywood and is his fourth solo Spider-Man film to date. These films, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day feature both Tom Holland and Zendaya - safe to say they are Hollywood’s power couple of today. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on track to reach a possible revenue of $2.5B and could be the highest grossing film of all time.
